How to Measure for Inside Mount

  • Measure the Depth

Measure your window frame for an inside mount. Minimum depth required: 1 3/4" (4.5 cm) for Standard & Cassette Valances, 2" (5 cm) for Square Valances.

  • Measure the Width

Place the tape inside the window frame and measure left-to-right at the top, middle, and bottom. Keep it level, record each measurement, and use the smallest one, rounding down to the nearest 1/8" (0.125")

  • Measure the Height

Measure top-to-bottom at left, center, right inside the frame. Keep the tape vertical; record each measurement. Use the largest measurement and round down to the nearest 1/8"(0.125")

Tips for Inside Mount

1.Ensure your window frame has enough depth for an inside mount: 1 3/4" (4.5 cm) for Standard & Cassette Valance, and 2" (5 cm) for Square Valance.

2.Note that the fabric width is usually about 1 3/16 inch (≈3 cm) smaller than the valance (order width).

How to Measure for Outside Mount

  • Measure the Space

Measure the height above the window where the headrail will be installed, ensuring enough space for secure bracket and headrail placement.

  • Measure the Width

Adding 3–6 inches (7.6 to 15.2 cm) to the exact width is recommended to cover the entire window and provide maximum light coverage.

  • Measure the Height

Measure the window from top to bottom. Add 3–6 inches (7.6 to 15.2 cm) to ensure full coverage and maximum light blockage.

Tips for Outside Mount

1.Add 2–6 inches to cover the trim or window, ensuring better light control and privacy.

2.Outside mounting accommodates brackets and makes the window look bigger.
